Before tonight’s fight a lot of critics said Miguel Cotto was on his way out and nearing the end of his career. However after tonight, Cotto may have some fire still burning within him. The catalyst appears to have been Cotto’s new trainer, Freddie Roach. Out of the gates you could tell Cotto was in a different mind set. He fought very aggressively and walked through Delvin Rodriguez’s punches like they were bothersome flies. I also noticed a renewed commitment to working the body and a thunderous left hook to head would put Rodiguez out on his feet and make the ref stop the fight.

In my eyes, the fight was stopped early, no doubt in my mind. Cotto was whipping Rodriguez’s ass, I agree, but he wasn’t given an opportunity to come back. That’s the best part of boxing, to allow a fighters get back up, dust themselves off and try to redeem themselves. If you take that away, we would had never seen such amazing fights like, Corrales-Castillo. But enough of my rant.

No disrespect to Delvin but Cotto didn’t exactly stomp out an A class fighter tonight. So what’s next for Miguel Cotto? Well he will have many options. One of the ones the fans are calling for is Canelo Alvarez. With Canelo being a Golden Boy fighter and Cotto seemingly back with Top Rank, I have my doubts that we see it. If this same Cotto shows up I would favor him over Canelo. Martinez name has also been mentioned, as well, but I believe he will face someone else. I believe he will take on the newly crowned IBF champ, Carlos Molina. It makes sense- it’s a safe fight. Molina has a difficult style but not much punching power. Cotto can go for the belt and then go for a big money fight.
I have a question for all our fans, Who do you think Cotto will fight next?
